Compulsory Basic Training (2nd Gear In The Six Gears of Road Motorcycling)
CBT was introduced in December 1990 as part of an effort to improve the road safety of motorcyclists. The aim was to ensure that all learner riders had achieved a basic level of competence before riding unaccompanied on the road. The purpose of the mandatory training scheme was to reduce the high level of accidents involving motorcyclists, particularly young and inexperienced riders.
All learner motorcycle and learner moped riders must complete a compulsory basic training (CBT) course before riding on the road.
Only instructors certified by the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency can teach CBT at an approved training body (ATB) such as Adventure On Wheels Ltd. ATBs must have instructors who have successfully completed a two day assessment and have sites approved by DVSA for off-road training, our yard at our head office in Melrose is such a site.
The contents of the table below are designed to give you a more flexible choice in how to obtain your CBT. Please study the CBT fact sheet and the CBT syllabus to work out how long you think it will take you to complete the full CBT course, then give us a call (01896 822452) to arrange your course.
