Adventure on Wheels Ltd working together with Active Sports, are providers of recreational adventure at its best, providing activities with adventure, over Land and Water to industry, education, and the general public.

What is Progressive Riding?

Progressive riding: The ethos of Progressive Riding is based on the Institute of Advanced Motorists IAM's skills and mind set. It is the continuous  process of learning and developing your roadcraft skills, it's about obtaining information quickly to evaluate and plan and to help keep you safe by being in the right place at the right time at the right speed. The course  is designed to help you think about your future as a  "biker" and may well involve a dramatic change in your riding/driving style, perception and attitude to motorcycling.

It's about using new skills in addition to old skills, not instead of". These programs are specifically designed for those wishing to ride at the highest level.  "Becoming A Better Rider"  and having more fun !

Riding a motorcycle has two core points

  1. the physical (as in presence, power, elements),

  2. the mental,

together they produce your outcome  as a rider.

Progressive riding at Level 3:

This is the entry level for Progressive Riding Skills.

We look at all your old skills, most likely the ones that you past your test with, whenever that was. (OSM PSL)

Entry Level Requirements - You may be new (full licence) to riding or returning to it after a long break or looking to improve your skills

Half Day Off Road, tarmac (3hrs) One to one only

First We will look at your existing machine control skills, Clutch control, Break control, and Throttle control, (CBT) and if needed we improve on them

You will learn how to master low and slow speed riding skills

bullet

You will learn about, and how to use  positive and negative fixation points

bullet

We will tool you up to improve your machine control at high speed

One motorcyclist £150

On Road Max group size 2

First We will look at your existing machine control on open roads

You will be given a demonstration ride on what you should be aiming for

We will look at your existing road craft in town riding

bullet

You will be given a demonstration ride on what you should be aiming for

We will look at how the "4 Ps" will improve your mindset and your machine control

bullet

Together we will work at improving your acceleration sense

bullet

Together we will work at improving your scanning and planning

bullet

Together we will work at improving your hazard perception and awareness

Progressive riding at Level 2:

This is the pre-requisite entry level for full Progressive Riding Skills, level 1

We look at all your existing skills and enhance on them taking you to a new higher level of "physical and mental" awareness' 

Entry Level Requirements - You should already be confident with your present skill level but feel that your control on bends needs to be improved, you know that for most of the time all seems to work out well when you ride but not really sure how that happens, it just do's ! however when you get things wrong you don't really know how to fix them ! 

Half Day Off Road, tarmac (3hrs) One to one only

First We will look at your existing machine control skills, Clutch control, Break control, and Throttle control, (CBT) and if needed we improve on them

You will learn about your anchor points and how to master them

bullet

You will learn how counter-steering works and how to best apply it

bullet

You will learn how to use positive and negative fixation points to their maximum benefit

bullet

You will learn the difference from English riding to European and how to apply these styles in to your riding

bullet

We will tool you up to improve your machine control at high speed

On Road Max group size 2

You will be given a demonstration ride on what you should be aiming for

We will look at your existing road craft in town riding

You will be given a demonstration ride on what you should be aiming for

We will look at how the "4 Ps" will improve our mindset and your machine control "Setting up your machine" for the job in hand

We will develop you use of vanishing and limit points

bullet

Together we will work at improving your acceleration sense, "riding to the limit point" (matching your throttle to the limit point)

bullet

Together we will work at improving your scanning and planning

bullet

Together we will work at improving your hazard perception and awareness

  1/2 Day 1 Day (6hrs) 2 Days

Progressive riding at Level 1:

These are demanding days involving high speed evasive action and emergency stopping, overtaking procedures, as well as low and slow speed manoeuvres and many other defensive riding attributes.

We look at all your existing skills and enhance on them taking you to a new higher level of "physical and mental" awareness' 

Entry Level Requirements - You will already be skilled in the use of anchor point including counter-steering and already skilled in the use of positive fixations and limit point throttle matching.                                   

Half Day Off Road, tarmac (3hrs) One to one only

You will be tested on your machine control using individual anchor points

You will be tested on your emergency stop skills at high speed

bullet

You will be tested on your ability to swerve at high speed and continue under control

bullet

You will have the opportunity to develop your English or European style of riding

  1/2 Day
One motorcyclist £150

On Road Max group size 2

First We will look at your existing machine control on open roads

bullet

You will be given several demonstration rides on what you should be aiming for

bullet

We will look at your existing road craft in town riding and making full use of hand signals

bullet

You will be given a demonstration ride on what you should be aiming for

bullet

We will look at how to be more visible to others - " Braking up the Picture"

bullet

You will be asked to analyze others at a similar level and be analyzed by them

bullet

You will be assessed on your use of the "System of Riding" In Town and on Open road including using the system on overtaking

bullet

You will be assessed on your "Defensive Riding"

bullet

You will be assessed on your "Positioning for Advantage" and "Approaching Hazards"

... now think about this ...

After passing their bike test, most motorcyclists don't develop new skills, they simply become complacent and confident in the lower-end skills they were trained in to pass their test. This makes them a more confident biker but not a safer and better biker. Does this apply to anyone you know?
