Weavers And Reivers 115 Mls Approx

The Glen Café at Loch of the Lowes

Weavers and Reivers (115 miles)

This is a short day tour taking in some of the Borders most scenic valleys and rivers and crossing over into Dumfries and Galloway region.

Starting from Melrose we pass through Selkirk for a fuel stop if required.  From Selkirk we head west towards Moffat for a (possible) refreshment stop and leg stretch.  Moffat has a fine wide main street with some interesting shops (try the Moffat Toffee) and an unusual statue of a ram, a tribute to the area’s textile and knitwear industry.

From Moffat we take a series of unclassified roads to Eskdalemuir.  For those who haven’t visited on another of our half day tours, we stop at the Samye Ling Buddhist Temple for refreshments and a leg stretch.

Next we head for Hermitage Castle, a Borders’ stronghold with a violent and bloody history, we stop here for a leg stretch and a look around. Carrying on, we go to Hawick, famous for woollens, especially Cashmere.

Staying on the A7 north through Hawick (notice the imposing Reiver’s statue on the High Street) we return to Melrose.

General Information: The theme of all our tours is for a relaxed and unhurried trip, taking in local scenery and points of interest.  We try to run at a pace to suit all within the group but appreciate that some may wish to go faster than others and will endeavour to accommodate such riders on appropriate sections of the tour.

It should be noted that it is Tom's policy to avoid riding on motorways so please do not expect any! However, there are occasions when we have to be at a particular location at a specific time and therefore the planned route may be altered accordingly.

Reivers and Weavers can be incorporated into the two day Borders Brace or merged with any of our other half day tours.

Prices: For individual or joint tours are available on enquiry; accommodation options and costs can also be made available on request, if required.

Dinning out: We are always happy to advise on where to dine and when at all possible we like to dine with the hole group.

Bike hire: For information on bike/equipment hire and our vehicle support  service please refer to our webpage Bike and equipment hire etc.
